Clean Truck Check generally applies to diesel and alternative-fuel heavy-duty vehicles over 14,000 pounds GVWR operating in California, including many vehicles registered outside California. Out-of-state motorhomes are excluded from Clean Truck Check. Exemptions and test requirements vary; check CARB’s vehicle exclusions.
Can an out-of-state truck need Clean Truck Check?
Yes. California operation, rather than only the registration state, can trigger program requirements. Review your vehicle’s eligibility and current requirements with CARB before entering California.
Can I plan a test while passing through San Antonio?
A route-based appointment can be planned around an agreed stopping point and arrival window. Share the truck details and confirm a safe, accessible location in advance.
Is Austin included in the same mobile rate?
Yes. Austin uses the same $150 / $140 / $125 testing rates as San Antonio, with no travel surcharge within our service area. Fleet rates apply to trucks tested together at one location during one appointment.
How do I know which test my truck needs?
The required test depends on the vehicle’s engine and diagnostic eligibility. Have the VIN, model year, and fuel type ready so OBD eligibility can be confirmed. We provide OBD testing only; non-OBD inspections are not offered.
How often does my truck need testing?
Testing frequency and deadlines depend on the vehicle and current CARB rules. Check the deadline in your CTC-VIS account and consult official program guidance rather than relying on a general schedule.
What if my truck fails?
Review the test findings and complete any necessary repairs. Retesting is free within our working service area. A passing test does not replace vehicle reporting, state fees, or other requirements in your CARB account.
